Beyond AlopeciaUnderstanding comes first.

About

Brigita Deveikaite

Certified trichologist, working mainly with hair loss and autoimmune-related hair loss. Online, from Barcelona, with clients anywhere.

Why trichology

Because the gap between what people are told about their hair and what’s actually known about it is enormous, and almost nobody is standing in it.

Most people experiencing hair loss are handed a product long before anyone has established what they’re treating. It’s rarely dishonest. It’s just the shape of an industry that sells solutions rather than assessments. Trichology, done carefully, is the part that comes first.

02 Perspective

On my own alopecia

I’ve had alopecia. I know what it’s like to notice something before anyone else does, to be told it’s nothing, to look at photographs from two years ago and count. I know how much of it isn’t about hair. It’s about recognising yourself, and about how much attention you have left over for anything else once you’ve started watching your own scalp.

That experience isn’t what qualifies me, and I’d rather not pretend otherwise: the training and the certification do that. What it gives me is something narrower and, I think, more useful: better questions, patience with timelines measured in seasons, and an ear for what people leave out. When someone tells me it’s fine and they’re used to it now, I usually know exactly what they mean. You will not have to perform being okay with me.

03 Beliefs

What I believe about hair loss

  • There is a person behind the hair. Their history is the most useful diagnostic tool available.
  • Understanding should come before treatment, not after it hasn’t worked.
  • Uncertainty stated clearly is more useful than confidence invented.
  • Trichology works best alongside medicine, not instead of it.
  • Nobody should be spending money on their hair without knowing what they’re treating.

04 Background

The rest of it

I care about explaining things properly, which is why the writing here matters to me as much as the practice does. If something on this site is unclear, that is a fault I would like to know about.

I follow the research on red and near-infrared light and other wellness technologies with interest and a fair amount of scepticism. I’ll talk about it if you ask, with the evidence attached. I don’t currently offer it as a treatment.

05 Expectations

What working with me is like

Slower than you might expect. More questions than you might expect. Fewer promises, and a lot more explaining.

Somewhere between a specialist and the friend who happens to know about this, the one who sits down with you, reads the letter properly, tells you what it actually says, and writes out what to ask at the next appointment. I’ll tell you when something is unclear rather than hand you a tidy answer that turns out to be wrong, and I’ll tell you the truth even when it isn’t the thing you were hoping to hear. That’s the deal, and most people find it a relief.

If that sounds like the kind of help you want.

A consultation won’t hand you certainty about everything. Nobody honestly can. It will give you a much clearer picture of what’s happening, what to do next, and someone in your corner who takes it as seriously as you do.
